Department of Homeland Security

 

The Department of Homeland Security's Office of Grants and Training (G&T) will begin accepting applications for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2007 Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) beginning March 29, 2007, at 8:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) with the deadline for receipt of the applications no later than May 4, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. EDT.
 

Interested applicants can access the FY 2007 AFG application through the AFG website (www.firegrantsupport.com). The website contains important information on the AFG, including the FY 2007 funding priorities and program guidance, a web-based tutorial on the application process, a listing of frequently asked questions, and other materials. Fire departments that have questions regarding this grant opportunity should contact the Help Desk at 1-866-274-0960 or at firegrants@dhs.gov.

Eligible applicants for the FY 2007 AFG are limited to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service (EMS) organizations operating within the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, American Samoa, or the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Interested applicants may submit two separate applications for consideration under each of the following two program areas:

·     Operations and Safety Program Area: Eligible activities for fire departments and nonaffiliated EMS organizations are limited to training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness, and health and safety modifications to stations and facilities.

·     Vehicle Acquisition Program Area: Eligible apparatus available to fire departments under this program area include, but are not limited to, pumpers, brush trucks, tankers/tenders, rescue vehicles, ambulances, quints, aerials, foam units, and fireboats.

The FY 2007 AFG will also allow eligible applicants to submit an additional application for a regional project in which multiple organizations serving more than one local jurisdiction benefit directly from the activities implemented with the grant funds.

 

Department of Environmental Quality

 

Nonpoint Source Management 319 grant for 2006.  The Nonpoint Source Management Program is an entry point to apply for funding that will implement projects and activities to improve surface water or protect ground water quality.  Successfully funded nonpoint source projects should implement on the ground practices and restoration activities that are related to total maximum daily loads, certified drinking water protection plans, groundwater management plans, or equivalencies.

The Idaho Community Foundation is a public charity. The Idaho Community Foundation is composed of many individual funds, each with its own legal description, which are tracked separately for administrative and grant making purposes, but are pooled for more efficient and cost effective management of the assets. Volunteer Fire Assistance

 

The Department of Lands in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service announces the Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant.  This grant is for rural local fire service in communities of 10,000 people or less.  The funds are used to organize, train and equip Fire Departments.  The match requirement on this grant is 50% - 50%.

SAFER Grant - Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response

 

The purpose of the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grants is to help fire departments increase the number of frontline firefighters. The goal is for fire departments to increase their staffing and deployment capabilities and ultimately attain 24-hour staffing, thus assuring that their communities have adequate protection from fire and fire-related hazards. The SAFER grants support two specific activities: (1) the hiring of firefighters, and (2) recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters.

Assistant to Firefighters Grant

 

The Department of Homeland Security announces the Assistant to Firefighters Grant.   The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical services organizations.  AFG helps firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.

Five-Star Restoration Matching Grants Program

 

The Five-Star Restoration Program provides modest financial assistance on a competitive basis to support community-based wetland , riparian, and coastal habitat restoration projects that build diverse partnerships and foster local natural resource stewardship through education, outreach, and training activities.  In 2004, 50 projects received grant of on average $10,000 out of approximately 180 applications received. 

 

The projects must involve diverse partnerships of ideally five organizations that contribute funding., land, technical assistance, workforce support, and/or other inkind services.  Awards are between $5,000 and $20,000.

Preserve America Stewards

Mrs. Laura Bush, First Lady and Honorary Chair of Preserve America, announced the initiation of a new program: Preserve America Stewards, which will honor exemplary volunteer efforts at historic resources around the country.  The program will recognize programs at the state, tribal, local, or regional level that have demonstrated a successful use of volunteer time and commitment in order to help care for our cultural heritage.

Potential Preserve America Stewards programs apply to be recognized at the national level using an application form and guidance materials made available through the Preserve America Web site www.preserveamerica.gov.  The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, the U.S. Department of the Interior, and other partner agencies implement this program on behalf of the White House.
